BROCCOLI

Broccoli – one of the healthiest vegetables on the planet!

Broccoli, in Latin ‘Brassica oleracea’, is a cruciferous vegetable that belongs to the mustard family (Brassicaceae), just as cabbage, Brussel sprouts and kale. It is very closely related to cauliflower, but while they are the same species, they can be distinguished by their color, as broccoli is green (or sometimes purple) rather than white.

Broccoli is grown for its edible flower buds and stalk. It is native to the eastern parts of the Mediterranean region and Anatolia. Broccoli was first planted and grown in Italy in ancient Roman times and only introduced to England and America in the 18th century, where it was referred to as ’Italian asparagus.’

Broccoli belongs to those plant groups that are considered superfoods thanks to their impressive health benefits.
